My Baby Bella & Her Bedding Set

Introducing my baby.. our precious little Bella Richard..

She was born two days after my birthday, on 30th September 2011..
3.5kg healthy baby girl..

:: 4 days old ::

I managed to finished her bedding set a few days before she was born. Including crib sheet, one small pillow case, two small bolster case and the crib bumper. I have one more piece that i plan to do, the dust ruffle but couldn't make it in time. I use cute pink penguin flannel fabric for most of it. Combine with dark brown cotton & printed ribbon as trim and ruffle for the bumper. All are self-drafted pattern.

Before the delivery, we were actually planning to train her to sleep in her crib. I thought it was that easy, but wow, i was so surprise how wrong we are. She ended up sleeping with us on our bed until this very moment. It was much easier and happier for all of us. And now, the crib are just used for diaper changing.

She's almost 4 months now. Our life are so much blissful since she arrived. I never thought i could love someone so much more like this, more than my ownself. She's number one in my heart now :)

The Baby Quilt

And my first finished quilt ever!

And first sewing for baby project!

Oh im so in love with this baby quilt. I love the colors so much. Although this quilt is so not perfect, but im pretty happy with it. Being a first time quilter, without the right equipment (quilting walking foot, free motion foot, etc) and experience, thats explain this messy quilt stitch i did at the quilt back pictured below. I found the continuous stitch pattern from the internet (sorry.. totally forgot the link), absolutely not easy to sew with my standard sewing machine and foot.

I use the Soire'e Charm Pack by awesome designer, Lila Tueller, that i have in my stash. There was one time in the past, that i was so addicted to charm packs (5' x 5' fabric squares), i just bought and kept them like precious collections. Im so glad i have a reason to use them now. For the backing and binding, i use plain pink and dark brown cotton blend fabrics. Pink and dark brown is my most favourite color combo, very yummy combo - like chocolate and strawberry ice-cream, i plan to use this combo on the baby beddings too.

I learn a lot from this awesome quilter, Amy Smart, through her awesome blog, Diary Of A Quilter. She has complete tutorials about quilting basic like add binding and borders. And i love this particular charm-pack baby quilt tutorial. So helpful.

I appreciate comment and suggestion from experienced and dedicated quilter friend out there. Im so in love with this quilt, i think i'll be making more quilts in the future.

By the way, im currently 36 weeks right now. Im very excited and nervous at the same time, thinking i might be in labour any time from now.. haha... More baby stuffs coming soon.

My Maroon Maternity Maxi Dress

Last maternity piece from me.. a maroon knit maxi dress... I really love this dress, how it drapes & accentuate my baby bump. I wear this to attend a formal dinner event, and love how comfortable i am through out the night.

Some more looks, showing off my baby bump... at 32 weeks. I look soooo big, im still shock/amaze everytime i look at myself on the mirror.

Knit fabric is totally not easy to sew. I love knits and how it feel on my skin, but for me, it was the most difficult fabric to deal with. Luckily, this is a simple pattern and even my stitch got distorted here and there, i still manage to create it the way i like.

Angelina Jolie's red carpet green maternity maxi dress is the inspiration of my dress. She looks absolutely gorgeous!!

I use New Look 6823 Misses Knit Dress pattern.

I choose view C, the sleeveless look, with some changes made. Beside making it longer, i cut a wider lower front piece so i can gathered it along the front empire seam line to make more rooms for my baby bumps. The outcome was not as clean cut as the dress should look, but im glad it turn out ok. Read my pattern review.

My Floral Cotton Maternity Tunic

I use lightweight cotton, with big floral print.

Love the print, and i love sewing cotton, because it was easier than the previous two tunic fabrics.

Pregnancy update: I am currently about 30 weeks pregnant. Getting heavier and more tired each day. I know i should be resting, and just get through this third trimester smoothly. But being a first time mother, i am so overwhelmed with baby preparation. Not to mention the workload at the office, so much to be settled before i'm leaving for my 3 months maternity leave. I am constantly hungry. My pelvic bone is so painful sometimes, i can barely walk. I really cant stand the tropical heat, during day and night. My tummy feels so full, i got indigestion and heartburn now and then. I cant wait for the baby to come, so all this will be over, and i can meet my precious baby. But at the same time, i want to freeze the time, i feel i wasnt ready with the preparation and everything. Hope everything going to be OK.

My White Chiffon Maternity Tunic

Im planning to join the "One Pattern Many Looks" contest that currently running at PatternReview.com. Because i love the previous maternity tunic so much, i decide to stick with that pattern. So, here we go, another maternity tunic, this time with white chiffon, fully-lined.

:: Not so flattering front-view ::
I treat the chiffon fabric & lining as one-piece on the upper part, and seperate pieces for the lower part (except on the empire line & shirring part). Not very easy to do, im just experinmenting with this method, and looks ok to me.

What i hate? The shirring looks very bulky because of the double layers of fabrics. And looks very messy escpecially the shirring on the empire line seam. Perharps, this garment/pattern is not suitable to be lined.

:: Pattern pieces ::

I use plain white chiffon as the fashion fabric and plain white satin as the lining. Same like previous tunic, I use Burda Style Magazine, 05-2010, pattern no. 104 and made some changes; I omit the sleeve band, lengthen the hemline for about 2 cm, raised the neckline and raise the armholes. This time i didnt reduced the shirring lines. Read my pattern review.

Next, im planning to make another similar tunic, with cotton fabric. See ya! :)

My Pink & Black Maternity Tunic

Another empire maternity tunic.

I use silky pink & black patterned fabric. Not really sure the exact material. The fabric has a beautiful sequins embellished parallely near the selvedge. I cut the selvedge and attach it along the V-neckline of the tunic.

With only 4 pattern pieces, this is among the easiest tunic to sew. I did took a lot more time doing the shirring (for the first time) than sewing the whole garment. I use Burda Style Magazine, 05-2010, pattern no. 104. I made some changes; I omit the sleeve band, lengthen the hemline for about 2 cm, raised the neckline, raise the armholes and reduce the shirring line from 8 to only 5 lines.

I really love this pattern i think i might sew this again with another different fabric. Its very comfortable and i love how i look. Read my pattern review.

My Polka Dot Maternity Blouse

I drafted the pattern myself, and the sleeve turn out very wrong. Too small for the bodice. And i dont have any extra fabric to repair the mistakes. Too bad..

I add a triangle shape of knit fabric, sewn in to the armhole and empire line seam. I try to make it functional like a nursing blouse, where i can open the v-neck and lift the knit for breastfeeding. Sorry, no photos to show these but i think it will work well.

I saw this cute Christina Applegate's maternity dress using the black & red polka dot fabric from a site, which inspired me, since i already have the similar fabric in my stash.

My Black & White Maternity Tunic

The laggardness of this blog shows how little time i got for my sewing activity. But i got one big excuse for this, cum one big happy news; I'M PREGNANT!! Yes, everyone, i'm so happy to announce that i'm currently 5 months pregnant with my first child. After TTC for more than 2 years, this is among the biggest highlight of my life.

My first trimester terrible pregnancy sickness fortunately has gone, and i can finally move on with my routine, including sewing this tunic.

A pullover tunic that has narrow hem extending into points at side seams. Instead of making A: sleeveless and B: long sleeve, i'd made it short sleeve. I also add tie belt at the back (sorry no photo) to control the shape since this tunic are quite baggy.

A great simple tunic for a first maternity project. I use black & white floral printed fabric. With only three pieces of pattern, this is among the easiest & fastest to be done.

I use Vogue pattern V8371 that i have in my stash. Not actually a maternity pattern, but i guess, creativity is needed to make a roomy & comfortable cute matenity wear. Read my pattern review.

I would like to express my appreciation to some encouraging emails that i got from all of you who keen to see my sewing progress in this blog, and letting me know how my blog has been an inspiration. My Green Jacket

Hi again & Happy New Year everyone! It's been a while since my last post. The 2010 year end was a really buzy time for me, so much going on & so little time for sewing. But here's my green jacket. Take me months to finish it, but in the end, i'm really satisfy with it :)

I love the style of this jacket especially the collar. The fitting is great too. Also love the attached belt-like detail across the waistline. And the cute DIY fabric buttons too.

Not in the pictures: I used a darker green shade, plain satin for the lining.

I use Simplicity 3962. I got the inspiration from the green jacket pictured on the pattern envelope, since i have that similar fabric in my stash. I really wish i have extra fabric to sew the skirt too so i can get a complete suit like shown. I love this pattern. Read my pattern review.

My Purple Kebaya Nyonya

This is one of my fastest but most difficult project ever. I have a Hari Raya hotel dinner, with kebaya theme and i have nothing to wear. I bought the fabric about three days before the event. After sewing like mad, i'm glad i have perfect outfit on that night. My purple kebaya nyonya.

For my international friend, do visit this site to know more about this traditional outfit. It's basically a front-closure beaded embroidered blouse with a batik sarong as the long skirt. Such an exquisite outfit.

Sewing this kebaya was not easy job for me. It's a first time. With no existing pattern as a guideline. I keep doubting myself every cut & sew i make. And such a limited time! It's a fitted garment and no room for any mistake. At the end, its a little imperfect like always but i'm very glad everything turn out well without any major flaw.

:: Fitting on my mannequin ::

The fabric that i bought consist 2 meters of plain purple crepe fabric with embroidery + beads at strategic edge, 2 meters of batik sarong fabric and a matching shawl. 3 in 1 :)

As i mentioned, i have no ready-made pattern that i can use as a guideline to cut this unique style. I have no choice, i have to self-draft it. This book, Seni Jahitan Pakaian Pengantin (The Art of Bridal Garment Sewing) helps me on that.

I'm actually having trouble to understand it. Definitely not for a beginner. But i manage to draft the basic piece and make changes here and there accordingly.

U may ask why in that short period, i dont just bought a ready-made kebaya like the rest of the girls. Trust me, I did try shop around looking for a kebaya that fit me bodily and budgetly, but found nothing. I rather sewing. Now I have a perfect fit kebaya and i'm very proud of it :)

My New Sewing Machine!!!

I'm sooooo excited with my newly bought sewing machine!
I finally have my own. (I was using my mum's before)

I bought Singer Confidence 7465.
It has 50 stitches with 2 one-step buttonholes. I'm so thrilled with the one-step buttonhole function. I hate the 4-step i used before.

I'm a loyal Singer user since learning to sew bout 10 years ago. Both my mum and mum-in-law is also a Singer fan. Never use any other brand before. Not only because i'm not interested to learn a new machine, but i also dont have any choice. Singer is the only sewing machine supplier & center I have locally. Easier for service and repair if needed in the future.

Thanks to my lovely awesome sewing-blogger-FB friends, Evyline & Ayuni, both who also Singer user. Thanks for your consultation before i made my decision to buy last weekend. I decide to have the same sewing machine like Evyline's. Fits my budget and needs :)

I have so much in my to-sew list. I cant wait to use this new baby. I wish i can be as productive as Marisa, a very awesome sewist, who can refashion anything she want. My Pink Batik Blouse

Woah! It's been a while since my last post. I've been so busy with works. So much things happen. An office event, a scientific expedition, paper works, u named it. That's explain the passiveness of this blog.

Here's my latest project. A pink batik blouse.

Scoop neckline, side slits in sleeves and side edges.

:: Pattern pieces ::
Just look how easy this pattern is. Just two fabric pieces to cut.

::The fabric::
Not really a typical batik pattern, but 'batik kupu-kupu' (which means butterfly batik) is written on the selvage. This fabric is satin, glossy, very soft and a bit stretchy. Love love love this one!

I use pattern Butterick Fast & Easy B4748 from my shop. I sew view B. The easiest pattern i ever try. Read my pattern review.

My Bishop-Sleeve Chiffon Blouse

A Bishop-sleeve chiffon blouse.

The main feature of this garment is the bishop-sleeve. I really love this sleeve. It's the main reason i love to try this pattern. I love the wide square neckline too. But it's a little bit difficult to prevent the gap. I already add an elastic but still not enough to solve the problem. It has side zipper as the closure. I wish it's a bit fitter at the empire line to make a more flattering shape. But i think this will be ok, more comfortable fit.

Every pattern will be cut twice, on lining and on chiffon fabric, except the sleeve.

I use 'printed italian chiffon' for the fashion fabric and a plain greenish yellow fabric as the lining.

I use New Look 6669 pattern from my shop, pattern View A, to sew this blouse. It's a quite easy pattern, but require more time consuming. Read my pattern review.

I wear this blouse to attend a family friend's wedding reception few weekends ago. I know the blouse is not perfect, but i'm proud of it and i'm sure i look good. :)

My Off-Shoulder Midnight Blue Dress

This year, the dinner was held last Saturday.
And i made this dress for that particular occasion.

This is a figure-hugging dress, and like the rest of the women in the world, i am so critical and insecure with my 'blossoming' body. Luckily, i have the sweetest husband in the world, who keep motivating me to sew this dress (he even choose this style out from all the dresses in BWOF) and keep telling how gorgeous i am that night... love hubby :)

:: Fabric pieces ::

Fabric used is a very nice, high-quality, quite costly, midnight blue color, silk shantung fabric.
I'm very happy that it is almost the same fabric and color like used in the BWOF.

I use dress pattern 138 from Burda Fashion 11-2009. Originally look like the above picture. I made some alteration, omit the sleeve, and shorten the hem up to knee length, exactly on the lining line of this pattern. Read my pattern review.

This dress and my previous kadazan costume will be entered in Formal Wear contest held at Pattern Review. I'm not really sure of grabbing the grand prize. Just for some fun in participating along with the other sewing friend :)

My Traditional Kadazan Costume

For me, every 'Sumandak' (girl) should own at least one traditional costume of their ethnic.

In conjuction of the araimaitee aka Kaamatan month, May, I make this one for myself :)

I'm not really from Penampang. My husband is. My dad side is from Dusun Tamparuli, while my mum's a Orang Sungai from Sugut.

I am very proud to be born in Borneo, a culture richness place, variety of ethnics/natives. One of my favourite local event is Unduk Ngadau, an annual beauty pageant, where all the beauties will donning a variety of traditional costumes. Check out this site to get a glimpse about this.

My Mum's Baju Kurung

During last week Mother's Day, i made my mum a pink baju kurung.

She's very happy to receive it.
And i'm very happy to see her happy :)

My mum is a very petite young woman with the biggest warmest heart.
Being bout 1 ft taller and 10++ kg heavier than her (yes, i'm so much bigger than my mum, blame my dad's gene :p), people always misunderstood us as sisters.
It's about 18 years age difference between us, and we are like real-life Gilmore Girls.
I'm so proud of her, and she's the coolest mum anyone can have.

Has collar, half button-front, drawstring at the waistline, short gathered sleeve.

This tunic is very comfortable and i love the length of it. The only part i really dont like is the sleeve. I think it look a bit too long and big, making the whole looks very puffy. I prefer cap sleeve next time.

My Red Tartan Empire Dress

Weeks ago, a wonderful sewing-blogger friend, Evyline of Petite Crafterella, had help me to bought a cute Japanese sewing pattern book : Tunic & One-Piece No.2707. I have always wanted to try Japanese book since reading this post from K.Zura of Sew Retro Chic.

Most of the Japanese fashion in this book are loose-fitting, easy-to-sew, maternity-like garment. Evyline and I had decide to have a sew-along dress project. We pick No.27, which is my most favorite one. Check out Evyline's version of this dress.

The style : Plunging V-neckline, empire waist line, sleeveless, back zipper, ruffled hem. I really really really love this dress. One of my most fav creation :)

I use flannel red tartan fabric for this dress. I love the comfy-feel of flannel and how easy to cut and sew them. This is my first time sewing a tartan/plaid fabric. Look how awful the back pieces placement i made:

What a real eyesore!! Lesson learned...

Tracing the pattern is just the same process like Burda Mag. No seam allowances. But everything is written in Japanese, which i have to google which piece is which. The instruction is also written in Japanese, but luckily it has the step-by-step illustrations.

I really love this style. But the only thing i dislike about this pattern is the maternity-look of it. I just wore this dress yesterday and when i met somebody i know, they have this look in their eyes, making a speculation about me pregnant. Even my father-in-law did ask my husband, about the same thing. I just simply answer them, "No, not yet, i'm just fat".... LOL..

Will i sew this dress again? Yes, but only at the future time when i need maternity dresses.

Burda April For Sale

I'm letting go my Burda Magazine April Issue.

My story:
I have been subscribe to Burda Magazine since April last year through the Germany publisher. However, i stop receiving it since December 2009. I've contacted the publisher several times but didnt get any reply from them. Then I assuming there's something wrong with the postage system in my country. I totally have no idea where's my Dec 09 issue until Mac 10 issue. Assuming my yearly subscribe will be expire this April, i found another publisher, Sew Baby, from US. For a little bit more expensive (USD180 per year) but great communication with them, i have decide to subscribe Burda Mag through them starting this April issue. I received it last Monday and very happy with their fast shipping service.

However...... yesterday...... i received another April issue... from Germany (finally!)
Great!!!! (in the most sarcastic way)
What i'm going to do with the 2nd one?
Ok.. since i have spend thousands of ringgit to feed my sewing enthusiasm, i decide to sell this April issue to Malaysian sewist. Auction method.

My Pink Satin Blouse

A revised version of my previous polka dot blouse.

In this picture: I pair this blouse with my previous pencil skirt. Just another option for office wear (which i wore today). Neckline style is tie collar, but it doesnt look as "blossom" as it should be because of the satin fabric. Sleeve style is gathered short sleeves.

:: Pattern pieces ::

I use BWOF 05-2009, pattern 113, the one that i have traced from the polka dot blouse. Change the design. From an empire line to a straight cut blouse. Omitting the pleats on front and back. What did i do? I just cut the upper part of front & back, straigth until the hemline. Read my pattern review.

It's good to be experimenting with ur existing pattern and turn it into something u want to have. No need to buy new pattern. Just use the creativity u already have :)

My Floral Shirtdress

This is an experimenting project. A shirtdress. It turn out well. And i'm so much in love wearing this dress now.

I just use a top pattern and draft a simple skirt, combine them on the waist. They you go... a simple shirtdress! :)

For the top, i use M5322 (from my shop), the one i use previously for my stripe shirt. This time i use back & front pattern of View C and sleeve pattern of View A. Cut a straight line, 4 inches below waist for the waistline seam. Read my pattern review.

For the skirt, I just cut a rectangle pattern, just as much as the fabric that i have left. Add pleats on the side fronts and side backs like shown in the inspirational skirt drawing above.

I only have 3 meters of this floral yellow+pink, white base lightweight fabric with a single black floral border. Which i arranged the 3m border just for the hemline, front button and collar.

I'm very happy with the dress. Very easy to sew. Very comfortable to wear. I'll be wearing this for my coming July summer vacation to Bali. Perfect! :)

All i have to do now is to slim down and tone down those chubby arms :p

The fabric is a lightweight silky flowy shiny satin like fabric with a pink base floral print. I'm not a big fan of the print but i love the softness of the fabric on my skin and how airy and flowy it is.

I use McCall's 5315 from my shop. I just extend the skirt length to achieve a maxi dress look. I love to try this short dress version too someday. Great pattern. Read my pattern review.

My Long Black Coat

My Blue Knit Scarf

My first succesful knitting project ever! A simple ribbed scarf :)

I've been self-learning to knit since last eyar but havent succesfully create anything yet.
I will be using this scarf during my CNY trip to Turkey this Friday.
It's winter and i'm super excited. It'll be my first winter experience :)
I been living all my life in tropical (about 30 degree celcius) hot country.
I wonder what it's like to be in 2 - 12 degree celcius places.
Excited!!

I know, my scarf is not perfectly knitted (but i'm happy with it)
Half-way knitting, i realize i should use bigger needles. The stitch are too tight. And i'm not sure about the length too. End up with a very long-scarf. Look:

The scarf inspired by knitting pattern from BWOF Scarf 168-11-2009.
A simple knit 3 purl 3 (k3p3) pattern. I add fringe on mine.

I'm so running out of time to finish my long coat for this winter trip. 4 days more to go. Wish me luck! :)

My Mannequin

It's kinda dusty here. I'm having a long break after my last big sewing project. Now i'm ready for 2010!!!! :)

Start with buying a mannequin. I bought this mannequin from yepe.
It's cheap, moderate quality and i'm very happy with it.

But....... i'm not happy with the size difference between this mannequin and myself.
Actually, i'm more unhappy with 'my size'. I still think i should look like this mannequin. Bad diet :[

So, what do i do??? I make some research on how to make the mannequin match ur own size. I did found lots of good sites but forgot where'd it been. And this is how i did it..

1) I remove the mannequin cover - a stretchy tube-like fabric.

2) I put on my unused bra on the mannequin. I use (recycle) polyethylene foam (a soft packaging box foam) and stuffed underneath the bra cup and strap to add the volume and circumference until it reach my bust size.

3) Then, i cover the whole mannequin with a single layer of thick batting. Coiled it tightly with a 0.5cm elastic.

4) Put more foam on the waist and hip until it reach my size.

Then, i put back the cover. Taaaaaaaaadaaaaaaaaa......
Looks more like me... hehehehehe

And lastly, i add the style lines. This video help me on this.

What a great sewing boost to start the new year... i have a lot sewing project ideas in my mind. U'll see me next with my long winter coat project :)

My Denim Skirt

Finally! The last piece for my wardrobe contest entry!
A short denim skirt.

The style: Knee length, A-line shape, two small patch pockets, darts at front and back, front button closure.
Just a simple skirt and very easy to sew. Mine looks very boring though. Maybe some appliques will cheer it up.

My Darkbrown Top

The last top for my wardrobe contest entry.

The style: mock wrap-over look, plunging V-neckline, empire waistline, long sleeve.
I use a stretchy knit fabric. This is my first time sewing a stretchy fabric and it was difficult.
This top has a lot poor sewing works. I had revised the position of the upper front pieces to the band and add more pleats to prevent it from gap at my first try.

My Pencil Skirt

Here's the overall look.
This is actually my i-just-got-back-from-work look.
Yes, i wear it today, as soon as i finish sewing it last night :)

The style: knee-nipping pencil skirt. Below knee lenght. High waisted. Pleats on the front. Darts & vent at the back. Fully line. Attached belt carrier.

I love love love this skirt. Like BWOF said, it create a superb silhouette :)

My Straight-Cut Grey Trousers

Finally, a trousers for my wardrobe contest entry. I change both the pattern and fabric from what i planned in my preliminary plan. Here's the look.

I use a suiting dark grey fabric. (The color here is different from pictures above, maybe because of the off white balance setting) I'm quite dumb about fabric type. I dont really know what this fabric is.

The model wear it lovely. Maybe its better in white. Can u believe i forgot about the belt carrier in mine?? And the fit: I know its not perfect. I sew 42. Lesson learned. I should sew 40 next time.

My Black Flared Skirt

One of the rules of the wardrobe contest at pattern review is "All tops must go with all bottoms." So, i change my preliminary plan a bit. Still using the same planned pattern but instead of print fabric, i go for a black flared skirt for an easy-matching outfit. Here's my first bottom for the contest.

I wear it with a black wide belt in this pictures.

The style: Close fitting upper yoke has back zipper. Lower part flared until right below the knee.
This skirt is a very easy and not much time consuming to sew.
I love the flirty flare and create a bit like vintage look.

I hope this skirt will match with all of my other tops.

My DarkBrown PolkaDot Blouse

Top 1 for my wardrobe contest entry.

The style: Front and back waist darts and an empire seam line.
I love this style and makes me look slender. The long blouse create a slimming effect. Love it!
The original pattern has long sleeves. But I shorten the sleeve because 1) not enough fabric & 2) I dont need a long-sleeve blouse in my hot-weather-country.

:: The making ::

I use dark brown polka dot 100% cotton fabric. Comfy and easy to sew. Love it.
I use pattern 110 from BWOF 05/2009. There's two version in the mag. A plaid fabric blouse and a plain white blouse. Read my pattern review.

Ok! One top more to go. I havent start any of the 4 bottoms. And about 5 weeks left.

My Purple Blouse

Top 2 for my wardrobe contest.
A purple A-line top (from BWOF, it's actually a jacket)

Didnt turn out like what i've expected. A bit disappointing. But, consider acceptable for me.
The style: 3/4-length sleeves, a round neckline and section seams ending in inverted box pleats.
I use a purple satin fabric. Maybe this is why it didnt turn out like shown in the BWOF photo.
And i think the fit is terrible and the A-shape top is very unflattering on me.

My size problem confession : I have a bust size of 44. Sewn 44 before. Looks very baggy on me. So i sew 42. this one is 42. Still.... looks baggy on me. I've sewn 40, too fitted. Now, i dont know what size I'm in. I've always have to make a lot of alteration on the size, which will ruined the entire style of the garment. Anyone got any suggestion?

My Thai-Silk Tunic

A Thai-silk tunic.

:: I look "pregnant" here LOL ::

The tunic has front pleat (which make it quite baggy on the front), round yoke, tiny set-in cap sleeve and back invisible zipper for the closure. The tunic looks very loose, but i really love wear loose garment, it's sooo comfortable.

The fabric that i used is a beautiful tri-color Thai-silk with decorative glittering borders. I really love the colors : blue + purple + fuchsia.

I use BWOF 05/2009 pattern no.115 B (shorter tunic in 115A). This tunic is very easy to sew. Read my pattern review.

Wardrobe Contest - Prelimininary Plan

I really miss my sewing and i'm so happy to find out that patternreview.com is organizing a wardrobe contest. Finally, I got a reason to sew. Especially using my fav BWOF mags that been arrived for a while but didnt have a chance to start one. I'm very motivated and inspired :)

This contest starts on 09/01/2009 & ends on 12/01/2009. The main rule of the contest is to create 10 pieces of clothing consist of 5 tops, 4 bottoms and 1 topper. And here's my preliminary plan:

I dont really have a specific theme for the whole collection. I just gather all my fabric stash and browse to the BWOF mags to find my most fave pattern, something that i would love to wear. My whole idea is to make as much variety matching combination as i can.

My Dream Sewing Machine

Introducing Singer Sewing Machine Curvy 8770.
My dream sewing machine.

Price about RM 2,750.00.
If i buy this, i finally have a sewing machine of my own.
(Currently I'm using my mum's Singer Inspiration Sewing Machine)

Some features that strike me:

• 225 built-in stitches
(Oh my. All my life I have only used only two type of stiches: straight and zig zag. This so many options gives me some kind of exciting feeling for my creativity. Click here to view some of those stitches)

• 7 one step buttonholes
(The buttonholes system in my mum's machine didnt function very well. Sometimes i have to sew the buttonhole by hand. And this 7 types of ONE step buttonholes! The answer to my nag)

• One touch needle threader & Drop & sew bobbin system
(I've seen the video of this function. I'm soooooo wanting this!)

I use McCall's 5322 which have 3 options and i choose view C. I dont have perfect trims to match the fabric so i just omit the trim. I'm not quite happy with the fit, maybe i overestimate my own size. But I like this pattern & planning to use it again someday in the future with trims and maybe smaller size. I steal this pattern from my shop (again!). Read my pattern review.

My Wrap-Over White Top

Being a frequent reader in my church requires me to have plenty of white tops. So, I make one :)

To sew this, i use Easy stich 'n save McCalls M5450 that i "steal" from my shop. It's quite easy and not very time consuming compare to other typical top. I love this style. But the only thing i dislike about this pattern is the very short hemline and loose neckline which showing a little bit of my bra. Going to make some alteration next time. Read my pattern review for this pattern.

My Couch Makeover

My sewing machine had been repaired! And i just cant wait to try and sew something as soon as we arrived home :)

This what i made last night.

My rattan couch cushion cover.

This rattan couch is a very old couch, my hubby's family bought since 80's. The previous cushion is much more decrepit and we bought new cushion (which came together with the blue cover) for it last year. The quality of the blue cover is not very good, using a very light cotton fabric. And i dont really like the super-bright color and pattern. So, i changed it.

After some arguing and considerations between my hubby and I at the fabric store, we end up buying this dark blue-greyish stripe home deco fabric. We both like it :)

"Sadder-Day" Morning

It suppose to be a typical Saturday morning. I'm alone in the house, I have done my laundry, clean up the house, feed the dogs, feed the fishes and finally i have time all by myself. Time for me to sew.

After sewing a few yards of stitches, then suddenly the needle stopped. I can hear the motor still running inside. But nothing is moving. Cursing and curious, i fetch a screwdriver, open up the sewing machine and this is what i found.....

My Wedding featured in Bridal Guide Magazine !!

The wonderful lovely editor of this magazine, Ms. Habeebah Siddeeka, had granted my request to be one of the real wedding stories featured in their magz. I'm very very happy. My Batik Maxi Dress Part2

Now, bout the event. Why I need a new special dress for it?
Well, it was actually an annual dinner for my department where i work and........
I was awarded among the Best Employees of Year 2008.
Isnt that great! I really grateful and proud with myself :D

I use Burda WOF pattern Wedding Dress 124 from the BWOF April 2009, blogged in my previous post. Read my pattern review.

Another variation of this pattern is a Bollywood Dress 123.

And here's my version :)

The style ::
Neckline : Sweetheart (raised a few inches from original pattern)
Sleeves : Self drafted Cap Sleeve (the puffed sleeve is pretty, but i dont want to look like gaining extra pound. While the long sleeve, not suitable for my dress)
Waistline: Empire line
Skirt: A-line

Conclusion:
I love this dress style. And i will wear this for a function tonight.
Wonder how i'll look, just wait until my next post :)

My trip here in Langkawi is fantastic. I've visit many places. Beautiful Pantai Cenang, have a cable car ride, and much more. Too bad my hubby is not here. We could have a blast together.

I use the same pattern that i use in making my yellow retro shirt.

Just a bit changes on the neckline and sleeves.

It take me few weeks to finish this becoz of my busy schedule.

I use very small buttons, coz they soooo cute! :)

I'm actually not really happy with the neckline and the fitting. But still, it's wearable for me :)

This top is almost similar to my previous navyblue stripes jacket.

My April BWOF

I have subscribed the Burda World of Fashion (BWOF) magazine last few months and finally the first issue, BWOF April has arrived at my door step. I'm sooooo happy! It's a little late, others had received their May issue, but still, i'm so excited with it. :)

For anyone who didnt have any idea what this magazine about, u may read it in my previous post about 'what is sewing pattern?'. BWOF is one of a magazines that features sewing pattern in it.

These are among my favourites, selected top 5 from this issue. I hope i have time to sew it! :)

:: Wedding dress 124 ::

I love the empire cut, the puffy sleeve and the neckline. Very sweet look. I will use this pattern someday, to make a sweet lovely dress (maybe knee-lenght, raised neckline). Cant wait!

I love the top design, simple and elegent look. Definitely a great builder for my office-wear wardrobe. And of course, another pants. I have this perfect dark trousers fabric for it.

I love this top! If only i got the perfect plaid fabric for this pattern. I'm thinking of making this a top instead of jacket. I dont need another jacket in this hot-weather-country. Maybe i'll shorthen the sleeve. Wonder how it'll looks.

My Pink & Black Empire Dress

Two days before the wedding anniversary, i manage to sew this black and pink dress *last minute job*. Quite rush but it turn out beautiful as i picture it will be and i just love it!

The style: Knee-lenght. Empire line. Short gathered sleeve. V-neck line. Elastic casing at back line. I try to combine two different fabric, cotton + satin, in very contrasting colors, my fav black + pink.

I use the Simplicity 5193 pattern again (read my pattern review). This has become my fav dress pattern. The same pattern that i use for my turquoise dress and my white dress before.

:: Cutting process ::

For the fabric, i use Rose Damask Magenta from Joel Dewberry's Aviary Collection for upper part and black satin for bottom part. I just loveeee JD's fabric. But i have only one yard of it. I was in doubt at first to combine cotton and satin. I'm very glad how it turn out after i finish it. I have a beautiful dress to wear for my MIL's wedding anniversary! *happy*

I'm struggling to finish the wedding dress. It is less than a week til the date. I've been sewing like mad at night and struggling with my job day time. But i just enjoying every minutes of my sewing time. It's like a theraphy for me :)

Sneak-Peek Of The Wedding Dress

Remember the golden fabrics in my previous post?

Here's the story,
For who? : My 60+ years old Mum-in-law.
For what? : Their 50th golden wedding annivesary.
When? : This coming 24th April.
The style? : Like most classic women in Malaysia, my MIL wants a kebaya look with combination of satin and lace. So i suggest a floor length inner satin dress with a lace outer layer.
Why me? : I have no idea.... *staring blankly at the fabric*
How i'm going to do it? : With my little-experience and eager-to-learn-new-thing mind

:: One of my weird habit in sewing is to "play" with fabric before i cut it. For me, uncut fabric are sooo beautiful *grinning*::

:: I put all my courage and confidence to cut this expensive fabric. You must be wondering why i dont do muslin test garment. Well, it because i'm too d*mn L.A.Z.Y !! ... *not proud of it*...

I have only 1 yard of it and i make a top for me :)

My MIL's Triple White Blouses

This project keep me busy during my last few weekends.

My mum in law ask me to sew for her three (yes, i mean 3) identical white blouses.

She's a churchwarden.

I drafted the pattern according to the style she want.

The only thing that different is the neckline: scopp, V-neck and jewel-like neckline.

Suprise Gifts from Kak Diah !!

I'm so excited today !!!!!!!

I just received a small packet, a suprise gift from Kak Diah!

And when i open it, i was jumping up and down, so happy with what i received!

It's a absolutely beautiful cherry pouch and a super cute wrist pin cushion!

Look!

Kak Diah had posted in her blog last week about this pouch titled "Cherry Pouch Last Piece" and she mention about giving it a lucky friend. I realy never thought it was me! I was soooo touched! This is the first gift i ever received from a blogger friend. We never met in person, nor talk, but we feel like have known each other thru blogging.

Kak Diah is a very talented experience in sewing. And her quilts collection just mesmerize and inspire me. Looking closer to her handmade pouch, it is much more beautiful than in the photo. The stitch are so amazingly neat and the fabric is fabulous! Beautifuly designed.

Kak Diah, from the bottom of my heart, i'm very thankful for ur lovely gift for me. Thank you soooooooooo much! I will cherish this gift forever. Thank you! :D

My Floral Empire Top

I have this 1 meter of beautiful floral cotton fabric that i bought last month. With limited fabric, i dont have much choice of style to sewn. So, i choose this simple empire top :)

To sew this top, i use Burda WOF 03/2007 pattern no 120 as the basic pattern. I add a cap sleeve for more 'covered' look. I also raise up the back neckline. And add elastic band on the empire line for fitted fitting. Read my review.

My Grandma's Baju Kurung

Few weeks ago, my grandma gave me her favourite baju kurung and 4 meters of fabric. She ask me to replicate it and make her a new baju kurung.

Baju kurung is the most common and traditional attire for women in Malaysia. It is a combination of knee-lenght, loose-fitting, long-sleeve top and long skirt for the bottom.

I finally finished it! I really hope she like it! :)

What is Sewing Pattern?

This post is dedicated to all my fellow Malaysian sewing enthusiast and beginner especially Sis Maria :)

Sewing pattern is the paper templates of parts of a garment. The paper is pinned on the fabric to be cut into pieces along the cutting outline as the guide. The fabric pieces will be sewn together refering to the step-by-step instruction given to create the finished garment.

From my experience, i've been using 3 different kind of sewing patterns; Sewing patterns in Envelopes, Electronic PDF format & Magazine.

Sewing Patterns in Envelope

The most common sewing pattern. Every envelope included the pattern, sewing instruction, illustration of every step in sewing, cutting layout, drawing of the garment style, amount of fabric required, size, suggested fabric, list of notion needed. Everything u need is in there. Price about USD 10++. Vintage pattern is cheaper.

Sewing Patterns in Magazine

This is my favourite sewing pattern because the magazine is like a catalog that consist more than 50 style to choose from adult clothing, children and even home crafts. The pattern is staple at the center of the magazine which can be remove. But, the least fav thing is u have to trace the pattern to ur own paper. U must be full with commitment to do that. I subscribe BWOF monthly magazine for about EUR 60++ a year. Still havent received any.

My Yellow Retro Shirt

Another collar shirt :)
I just use Burda 03-2007 113 pattern as the basic pattern and make a lot of alterations : shorthen the sleeve, leave out the neckline pieces, lengthen the hem & etc.

Both front and back, princess seams. The sleeve are gathered. Buttons are sewn in pairs.

It's a bit loose fitting for me. But i like it that way :)

I'm Learning Crochet

Yup! I finally ask my mum to teach me crochet. Like quilting, i suddenly got inspired and love to try something new. But still, i cant hold the neddle the right way. My mum said, i should hold it like a pen, but for me, it's easier to hold it like a kitchen knife. Mum, let me just do it my way k :p

I stole my mum's pink and blue wools, hehe, and my first crochet creation, making a set of mini crochet flower. U can see some flaws here and there. Practise makes perfect right? I will use this cuties as embellishment in my upcoming project. Just wait and see *wink*

Mmph~ yummy~

I love this photo (above). I place them on my pinky "laptop skin". I'm a Libra. People said Libra is romantic. Well, maybe i am. I really really (i mean really zillion times) really miss my hubby right now. He's been away for two weeks for a field work. We have married for 6 months and this is the first time we been apart for this long. But, when i look from the positive angle, at least i got more times to sew since i don't have that big baby to feed LOL. Miss him.....

My Mum's B&W Crochet

I really really wish i can afford to buy all the fabric. It was so beautiful, i have thousand of ideas what i want to make with it. Too bad, it's very expensive, plus the international shipping. Maybe, i should squeeze my hubby to buy it for me :p

My First Trouser

Then u cut the fabric into pattern pieces.
Then, U sew it together according to the instruction.
I finished all of it in only about 3 to 4 hours :)

I use Burda 03/2007 again! Trousers 116. It suppose to look like Safari style but i use a different fabric and omit the belt carrier for clean-cut look at the waist. Conclusion, I love it :)

It's been a busy month for me and i just finished my february quilt (pic above) for the Calendar Quilt Challenge 2009. I use same materials like in my january quilt. I manage to reduce the wavy seams and i'm very glad with it *yeah*.

My Royal Purple Shirt

I need a new office wear. That's when i decide and pick this pattern and sew this collar shirt. From my existing clothes, lightweight satin is the most comfortable fabric on my skin. And i love satin. But, I came across an article that shiny-clingy clothes makes us look fat. Then i think wearing it loosely and less-detail will make me less chubby. What do u think?

My First Coat

This is my first attempt of sewing a coat. It was not as easy as i thought. I mess up some of the difficult part like notched collar, one piece bound pocket and lining. I've learn so much and plan to make another one with more quality fabric. For this project, i use cheapest coat fabric in black and black satin as the lining.

I start quilting!

Last week, i meet Diah Rothman, a wonderful quilter, who leads me to calendar quilt challenge 09. Seeing all diah's and calendar quilt challenge's members beautiful quilt works, and a light of inspiration suddenly shining to me. That's when i decide, i want to start quilting!

I love the concept of calendar quilt challenge create by Rachel Griffith, the lovely quilter. The members will make a strip quilt and sew one fabric piece for each day, everyday of 2009. We will keep updating bout our progress through the blog and will inspire, comment, give tips for each other.

Well, here a glimpse of my belated January strips.

I use my fabric scraps which most are silk, satin and batik. I know, i know... the most unusual fabric for quilting. But that's i all i have for now. I'm planning to buy some amazingly beautiful quilt set like moda pre-cut fabric from fat quarter shop (I'm dying to have it!).

This is my first quilt, and i have long way to go and so much to learn from all of you *inspired* :)

I change my blog design again *hehe*
I'm bored with the previous design, the colourful hurts my eyes *lol*
And i think it's a bit childish - sumting like kindergarden blog *lol*

So, with this new year, with increasing age, i change the design for a simpler and nice look *good for me*
I add a left side bar. Learn it from bloggerbuster
I redesign the header.
And i add my designed footer image.
